SNOW SEASON

How Residents and Property Owners Can Help Assure the Safety and Efficiency of the Town of Mamaroneck Highway Department's Snow and Ice Control Operations

  • STAY OFF THE ROADS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
  • DO NOT PARK ON TOWN STREETS DURING SNOW OR IICE EVENTS. VEHICLE OWNERS MAY BE CALLED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REMOVE VEHICLES WHICH INTERFERE WITH PLOWING OR SNOW REMOVAL. CARS PARKED DURING SNOW EMERGENCIES WILL BE TICKETED AND/OR TOWED. PLEASE BE AWARE OF OFFICIAL SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATIONS BY THE TOWN. 
  • PLEASE WEAR REFLECTIVE CLOTHING WHILE WALKING ON OR NEAR ROADWAYS DURING SNOW EVENTS.
  • DO NOT BUILD OR OCCUPY "SNOW FORTS" AND SIMILAR SNOW CREATIONS WITHING 10 FEET FROM THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT.
  • DO NOT RELOCATE SNOW FROM DRIVEWAYS AND SIDEWALKS INTO THE STREET. THIS IS IN VIOLATION OF NEW YORK STATE HIGHWAY LAW (Article 8, Section 214) AND WILL CREATE A HAZARDOUS CONDITION ON THE STREET. CODE ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WILL ISSUE VIOLATIONS.
  • SHOVEL OR PLOW AN AREA TO THE RIGHT OF YOUR DRIVEWAY EXIT TO ACCOMODATE PLOWED SNOW FROM THE STREET. THIS WILL HELP LESSEN BUILD-UP IN YOUR DRIVEWAY APRON WHEN THE TOWN PLOWS COME ALONG.
  • "PLOWING IN" DRIVEWAYS BY HIGHWAY PLOWS IS INEVITABLE AND UNAVOIDABLE. PLEASE SCHEDULE PRIVATE PROPERTY SNOW REMOVAL AFTER THE STORM.
  • YIELD TO TOWN PLOW TRUCKS AND GIVE THEM SPACE TO OPERATE.
  • COOPERATE WITH THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO ASSURE SAFE AND EFFICIENT CLEARING OF THE ROADS.
  • BE PATIENT, STAY OFF THE ROADS, AND LET THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMET PROVIDE YOU WITH SAFE WINTER TRAVEL. 

PLEASE CALL TO REPORT ICY CONDITIONS OR INADVERTANT SNOW PLOW DAMAGE CAUSED BY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT'S SNOW FIGHTING OPERATIONS
