Spring has sprung!

Spring activities are in full swing in the Town of Mamaroneck. More than 300 people participated in two successful Earth Day events: The Annual Lil Bunny Hop/5K Race and the Annual Spring Cleanup at the Hommocks Conservation Area. Turnout for the race was terrific with 285 runners participating in the Annual Lil Bunny Hop/5 K Race on April 22nd. The famous Town Bunny and Carrot gave out candy and high fives to the runners. Thank you to the Recreation Department, Fire Department, Police Department, and Highway Department for making it a fun filled event. The weather was beautiful for both events.

A special thank you to the Conservation and Sustainability Departments for organizing and making the cleanup a great success. Also thank you to Trader Joe’s and Walgreens for donating water and snacks for  the hard working volunteers.

Arbor Day, 2018

On April 27th,  Arbor Day, the Town rededicated two new trees at the Town Center to Judge Martin E. King Jr. and former long-time Highway Foreman Joseph Paterno. The plaques accompanying the new trees honor the two men. Family members were in attendance for the rededications.

Tax Bill

The Governor signed a bill in mid-April that would allow the state and municipalities to restructure tax payments as charitable gifts or payroll deductions in order to circumvent the federal tax law limiting those deductions. Although the operational logistics of how to accomplish this are not yet clear, the Town is beginning to explore various options. We are in contact with State officials, other local officials, and financial tax experts to determine what can be done for residents.

"Green" Resident of the Month

This month we honor Judy Caputo for leading the lunchroom trash separation activities at the Hommocks Middle School. Judy spends every Tuesday in the lunchroom for all three lunch periods. She guides students in separating their food waste and recyclables from trash.  She gives the untouched food to the guidance office who distribute it to students who forgot to bring lunch. Judy also encourages residents to join the voluntary Food Waste Recycling initiative in the Town of Mamaroneck/Village of Larchmont and she participates in Town cleanups as well. Kudos to Judy for going “above and beyond” the call of duty.
