Village of Mamaroneck Food Scrap Recycling Makes Good Progress

Ellen Silver, on behalf of the Committee for the Environment, reports that 2020 was a very good year for the Village of Mamaroneck (VoM) food scrap  recycling program. As measured by food scrap tonnage collected, the program grew 35% in 2020 versus 2019 with a total of 55 tons collected.

To further grow the program, they have had community outreach events at the Department of Public Works and on Mamaroneck Avenue during the latter part of the year. They will have a table through April at the Winter Farmer’s Market at Harbor Island to continue their community outreach and sell the food scrap recycling kits. Their progress has been made possible through many volunteers as well as the support of the VoM Department of Public Works and Recreation Department.
